Why You Need a Bachelor Degree

If you are thinking about pursuing a higher education, then earning a bachelor degree would be a worthy goal for which to aim. Students who go to traditional four-year universities do so in order to earn a bachelor’s degree, and it is one of the most numerous degrees conferred today. Considering all of the great benefits of earning a bachelor’s degree, it is not difficult to understand why thousands of students enroll in college each year just to earn that level of education.

A bachelor’s degree is one of the most popular degrees conferred for a reason. In fact, in the 2007-08 school year, a whopping 1,563,300 bachelor’s degrees were given out, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. A bachelor’s degree is a great degree to earn because it opens up numerous career opportunities. Graduates can work in health care as nurses, in big businesses as marketing experts, in technology fields as project managers, and much more. Though there are positions available for those with only a high school diploma or associate degrees as well, these positions are typically only entry-level ones. Even those who qualify to advance to a higher position typically must obtain a bachelor’s degree to do so. Earning a bachelor’s level education outright will allow graduates to skip working in entry-level positions and go straight to higher-paying positions with more authority.

Better pay is another great benefit of earning a bachelor’s degree. Those with bachelor’s degrees make approximately $264 more per week than those with an associate degree, and $363 more per week than those with only a high school diploma, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This means that bachelor’s degree holders typically make at least $13,000 more annually than associate degree holders, which could make the difference between whether or not you can afford to junk your old rust bucket for a brand new vehicle that won’t fall apart every 17 miles. The trend of higher pay for a higher education does not end with a bachelor’s degree – in most cases, those with a master’s degree earn more than those with a bachelor’s degree, and those with a doctoral degree earn more than those with a master’s degree. However, when it comes to getting the most bang for your buck, a bachelor’s degree is the best one to earn. This is because even though a graduate degree pays more, it also takes more time and money to obtain than earning a bachelor’s degree.

All in all, a bachelor’s degree is a great thing to have if you are looking to join a stimulating career field that will allow you to earn a comfortable living as well.
